What's Happening?
The Waterman Conservation Education Center in the Southern Tier received a $30,000 donation from Adam Weitsman to support its summer camp. The funds will address facility and staffing needs, including roof repairs and cooling upgrades, as the camp prepares
for its largest season since 2018. The camp, which serves over 100 children, offers outdoor activities and nature-based education. It is free for eligible Town of Owego residents and serves surrounding communities. The donation aims to ensure the camp's continued operation and expansion.
Why It's Important?
This donation is significant as it supports the infrastructure and operational needs of a community-focused program, enhancing its capacity to serve more children. The improvements funded by the donation will ensure the camp can operate safely and effectively, even during extreme weather conditions. This initiative promotes outdoor education and community engagement, fostering environmental awareness and social development among young participants. The support from local benefactors like Weitsman highlights the role of private contributions in sustaining and expanding community services.
