The supply of stablecoins has decreased by over $14 billion since May 2026, following new federal regulations that prevent issuers from paying interest on their tokens. Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC are the primary contributors to this decline, despite
a record transaction volume across stablecoin networks. The total stablecoin supply peaked at approximately $322.121 billion in mid-May 2026 but fell to around $307.561 billion by August 2. The GENIUS Act, enacted in July 2025, established the first federal framework for payment stablecoins, treating them as transaction tools rather than savings accounts.
