Intel Corporation has successfully completed a four-year U.S. government program validating its 18A manufacturing technology for secure defense applications. This development provides a credibility boost to Intel's foundry business, which has been struggling
to gain traction. The program, known as the Rapid Assured Microelectronics Prototypes Commercial (RAMP-C), was launched in September 2021 to help customers develop and test chips using Intel's 18A technology. Despite this achievement, Intel faces significant challenges in converting its manufacturing investments into external orders and improving factory utilization and margins. The foundry generated $5.8 billion in second-quarter revenue, but only $293 million came from external customers, resulting in a $2.1 billion operating loss.
