The Eastern Kentucky Colonels women's volleyball team secured the Geri Polvino Invitational (GPI) championship after defeating Appalachian State 3-2 in a five-set match at Baptist Health Arena. Both teams entered the Saturday match with a 2-0 record in the GPI.
The Colonels improved their season record to 10-2 with set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 21-25, and 15-7. In another GPI match, Tennessee Tech claimed third place by defeating Presbyterian College 3-2. Emilee Hill of the Colonels was named the tournament MVP, and Addison Burke also received all-tournament recognition. The Colonels maintained a lead throughout the decisive fifth set, scoring the first two points and extending their advantage after Appalachian State tied it at 2-2. Hill's kill and a subsequent block contributed to their lead, forcing Appalachian State to call timeouts. The Colonels ultimately closed out the set 15-7.
