Unequal access to Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and training within U.S. organizations is causing significant morale issues and could lead to employees considering leaving their jobs, according to a deep dive from The EVP Edit. While 83% of employees report
increased productivity and 77% find value in AI's introduction, 72% state that some colleagues have better access to AI resources. This disparity is denting the morale of 56% of employees, and 35% would consider leaving if they felt disadvantaged by it. A Gallup survey of 23,717 U.S. employees indicates that AI acts as a catalyst for change, with its impact on workplace culture varying significantly based on how it is introduced. The gap in access often arises accidentally through informal learning, where those with more time, confidence, or existing connections gain an advantage. This situation is particularly concerning for lower-income individuals, with 71% of UK adults on low incomes (compared to 38% of higher earners) expecting to be left behind by generative AI, a trend that is likely mirrored in the U.S. context.
