Nintendo has announced the development of a new version of the Switch 2, which will feature a user-replaceable battery to comply with new European regulations. This change will be implemented by autumn, with new Joy-Con models available from summer. The
original Switch models, including the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED, will cease production in Europe by mid-February 2027, although they will remain available throughout 2026. The new Switch 2 models will have slightly smaller battery capacities and increased weight due to the new battery attachment methods. The Switch 2 console will weigh 411g, up from 401g, and have a battery capacity of 5172mAh, down from 5220mAh. The Pro Controller will see a 16% reduction in battery capacity but will be 7g lighter.
