Eli Lilly and Co. has announced plans to implement a shuttle bus system for the approximately 1,200 construction workers building its new pharmaceutical plant in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh Valley. Workers will park at a rented lot on Tilghman Street
and be transported to the construction site. An additional 300 administrative employees will also use shuttles from rented lots. This measure is designed to alleviate potential traffic congestion in the area. Project manager Bailey Kuhn stated that workers will remain on-site for their entire shifts, with multiple 'worker welfare areas' providing food to minimize off-site trips. The nearly 800,000-square-foot plant, located on 150 acres between Old Route 22 and Interstate 78, will assemble injectable medications, including the weight loss drug Zepbound and Retatrutide. Construction is expected to continue through 2029, with operations projected to begin in 2031.
