Hopkins, who played for the Texans from 2013 to 2019, had a brief overlap with Easterby, who joined the team in 2019 after a stint with the New England Patriots. Easterby, initially a team chaplain, expanded his role to include player orientation and religious services. The relationship between Hopkins and Easterby was short-lived, as Hopkins was traded to the Arizona Cardinals in March 2020, reportedly at Easterby's behest.
