What's Happening?
Iberia Maintenance has announced the launch of IAG Engine Tech (IAG ET), a new engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) business. This initiative is part of Iberia's strategy to enhance its engine capabilities and expand its service offerings. IAG ET will
operate from Iberia's engine maintenance facilities in Madrid, focusing on CFM Leap engines. The new business will be led by Max Schramm, who previously managed Lufthansa Technik Canada. IAG ET aims to serve both the IAG Group airlines and third-party customers, with the first Leap engine shop visits scheduled for early 2027. This move aligns with Iberia's long-term investment plans to improve profitability and operational resilience.
Why It's Important?
The establishment of IAG ET represents a significant investment in the aviation MRO sector, highlighting the growing demand for specialized engine services. By focusing on CFM Leap engines, Iberia positions itself as a key player in the European MRO market, potentially attracting new customers and increasing revenue streams. This development also underscores the importance of strategic investments in enhancing operational efficiency and resilience, especially in a volatile economic environment. The success of IAG ET could influence other airlines to invest in similar capabilities, driving competition and innovation in the MRO industry.
