What's Happening?
T&G Global has announced the sale of its berries-to-citrus division, T&G Fresh, as part of a strategic shift to concentrate on apples and IP-led fruit. The division, which operates in New Zealand, Fiji, and the Pacific, will be sold through three separate
transactions. Bidfood Pacific Islands will acquire the Fijian and Pacific Islands export operations, while Pukekawa Holdings and Ashsadeep Company will take over the domestic root crop prepacking business. The largest deal involves J&P Turner acquiring T&G's New Zealand fresh produce arm, pending regulatory approval.
Why It's Important?
This divestment allows T&G Global to streamline its operations and focus resources on its core apple and VentureFruit businesses, which have shown significant revenue and profit potential. By concentrating on high-value, IP-led fruit, T&G aims to enhance its market share and shareholder value. The move reflects a strategic realignment in response to changing market dynamics and consumer preferences. For the agricultural sector, this sale highlights the importance of specialization and innovation in maintaining competitiveness and profitability.
What's Next?
The completion of these transactions is expected by September 1 for the Fiji and Pacific operations, and after regulatory approval for the New Zealand business. T&G will retain its Australian blueberry farm and related operations, integrating them into its VentureFruit division. The company will continue to explore opportunities to expand its apple and IP-led fruit businesses, leveraging its expertise and market presence. Stakeholders will be watching how T&G reinvests the proceeds from these sales to drive growth and innovation in its remaining operations.
