Alaska Airlines has announced plans to replace its ageing Boeing 717s with Boeing 737-800s for its intra-Hawaiian island service. Starting in October, the airline will operate one 737-800 for three daily round trips between Honolulu and Kahului, with a complete
transition expected by 2028. The 737-800s are chosen for their durability and reliability, particularly suited for the demanding short segments and frequent cycles of neighbor island operations. The aircraft will also feature Starlink wifi by SpaceX, offering an enhanced passenger experience.
