What's Happening?
48North Partners, a Los Angeles-based buy-side M&A advisory firm, has announced the addition of five new team members across its Los Angeles headquarters and its Medellín, Colombia research team. This expansion, effective September 14, brings the Los Angeles office
to 17 full-time team members, including two new fall interns. In Medellín, the firm added three Research Analysts—Daniel Pacheco, Daniel Rozo, and Luciano Pérez—expanding that team from five to eight members following a recent move into a larger office. Veronica Escobar continues to lead the Medellín team as Director of Research. The new hires in Los Angeles include Sophia Sklar as Associate and Athena Zhuang as Analyst. Sklar brings experience in capital management, private debt, and credit, while Zhuang has a background in finance and an investment banking internship.
Why It's Important?
This expansion by 48North Partners is significant as it positions the firm to address what is described as the largest transfer of private business ownership in American history, with a generation of founders approaching critical decisions regarding their businesses. By increasing its headcount in both Los Angeles and Medellín, 48North aims to enhance its capacity to serve a growing pipeline of founder-led sellers. The investment in the Medellín research team, specifically, highlights a strategic focus on data engineering, automation, and custom agentic workflows. This technological and human capital investment is intended to build more comprehensive market maps efficiently, maintaining the firm's quality standards. The growth underscores the increasing demand for M&A advisory services for privately held businesses in the U.S. market.
What's Next?
With the expanded team, 48North Partners is now better positioned to serve a growing pipeline of founder-led sellers heading into 2027. The firm's leadership, including Co-Founders and Managing Partners Chapin Newhard and Henry Feinberg, emphasizes that the growth in both locations will allow them to provide greater depth and attention to founders throughout the M&A process. The continued investment in data engineering and automation for the Medellín team suggests an ongoing commitment to leveraging technology to enhance research capabilities. This strategic growth is expected to strengthen 48North's ability to navigate the complex landscape of founder-led M&A, potentially leading to more successful transactions for their clients in the coming years.
Beyond the Headlines
The expansion of 48North Partners reflects a broader trend in the U.S. business landscape: the anticipated generational transfer of wealth and business ownership. As many founders of privately held businesses approach retirement, the demand for specialized M&A advisory services is set to surge. This creates opportunities for firms like 48North, which are building practices specifically around this demographic shift. The firm's dual-location strategy, with a research hub in Medellín, also highlights the increasing globalization of financial services and the leveraging of international talent pools for specialized functions like data analysis and market research. This approach allows U.S. firms to scale operations efficiently while maintaining competitive advantages in a dynamic market.
