What's Happening?
Richard Munden, a corporate and finance partner at Carey Olsen's Cayman Islands office, has been selected to serve on the World Services Group (WSG) North America & Caribbean Regional Council for the 2026-2027 term. The WSG Council is responsible for fostering
collaboration among member firms in the region, identifying engagement opportunities, providing regional insights to WSG leadership, and supporting the network's growth. Munden, who joined Carey Olsen in 2018, specializes in corporate and finance transactions, with a focus on asset and fund finance. His expertise also extends to digital assets, DeFi, and the blockchain sector, as well as cross-border transactions, debt capital markets, domestic projects, and joint venture and shareholder arrangements. This appointment follows a previous selection of Carey Olsen Bermuda partner Steven Rees Davies as the Regional Lead for the WSG Fintech Law Practice Group in the Caribbean earlier this year.
Why It's Important?
Munden's appointment to the WSG North America & Caribbean Regional Council signifies an enhanced role for Carey Olsen within a prominent global professional services network. This position allows Carey Olsen to contribute directly to regional strategies and foster stronger relationships with other leading firms across North America and the Caribbean. For the U.S. business landscape, this collaboration can facilitate more streamlined cross-border legal and financial services, particularly in areas like digital assets and complex corporate finance, where Munden has specialized expertise. The council's work in identifying opportunities and sharing expertise can lead to more efficient and integrated legal solutions for businesses operating within or expanding into these regions. This strengthens the framework for international business transactions and investments, potentially benefiting U.S. companies seeking legal guidance in these jurisdictions.
What's Next?
As a member of the WSG North America & Caribbean Regional Council, Richard Munden will actively contribute to strengthening collaboration and sharing expertise among member firms in the region. The council, chaired by Amman Gangji of Lawson Lundell, will work to identify new opportunities for engagement and provide regional perspectives to the broader WSG leadership. This will likely involve regular meetings and initiatives aimed at enhancing the network's services and reach. Munden's involvement is expected to further integrate Carey Olsen's specialized knowledge, particularly in digital assets and finance, into the regional and global WSG framework. This could lead to the development of new cross-jurisdictional legal services and solutions, benefiting clients engaged in complex international transactions. The council's efforts will continue to support the growth and effectiveness of the WSG network in North America and the Caribbean.
Beyond the Headlines
Munden's selection highlights the growing importance of specialized legal expertise in emerging sectors like digital assets and blockchain within the broader financial and corporate legal landscape. His role on the WSG Council underscores a trend towards greater international collaboration among legal professionals to address the complexities of modern global commerce. This appointment also reflects the increasing interconnectedness of legal and financial markets across North America and the Caribbean, driven by evolving regulatory environments and technological advancements. The emphasis on 'building relationships and sharing expertise across jurisdictions' through platforms like WSG suggests a proactive approach by legal firms to adapt to a globalized economy, ensuring that clients receive comprehensive and coordinated legal support regardless of geographical boundaries. This collaborative model could set a precedent for how legal services are delivered in an increasingly complex and digital world.
