What's Happening?
King & Spalding has successfully recruited a five-partner team from WilmerHale, a move that significantly bolsters its international disputes practice. The team, led by Gary Born, a veteran with four decades of experience at WilmerHale, will join King & Spalding's
offices in London and New York. Alongside Born, partners Rachael Kent, Franz Schwarz, Marleen Krueger, and Danielle Morris will operate out of Washington D.C. and London. This strategic acquisition is expected to enhance King & Spalding's capabilities in handling complex international arbitration cases. Born will co-lead the international disputes practice group with Elizabeth Silbert, the current co-head.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition is significant as it strengthens King & Spalding's position in the competitive field of international arbitration. By integrating a team with extensive experience and a strong reputation, the firm is poised to attract more high-profile cases and clients seeking expertise in cross-border disputes. The move also reflects a broader trend of law firms expanding their global reach to better serve multinational clients. For WilmerHale, the departure of such a prominent team could impact its standing in the international arbitration arena, potentially leading to a reevaluation of its strategic focus.
