What's Happening?
Agero, through its recent acquisition of Urgently, has announced a strategic partnership with MOTER Technologies, Inc. (MOTER), an insurtech company specializing in connected vehicle data. This collaboration aims to integrate digital roadside assistance,
claims intelligence, and driver risk analytics to improve efficiency, enhance driver safety, and deliver better customer experiences for insurers and automakers. The partnership will combine Urgently’s digital roadside assistance platform and Agero’s nationwide service network with MOTER’s connected vehicle intelligence, claims visualization, and driver risk technologies. This integrated solution is designed to connect roadside assistance, accident support, claims intelligence, and driver engagement, enabling insurers and automakers to respond more proactively to vehicle incidents. Agero currently supports two-thirds of the top auto insurers in North America, managing approximately 14 million annual roadside events across over 150 million vehicles.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant for the U.S. insurance and automotive industries as it addresses the growing demand for more connected and proactive vehicle support services. By leveraging connected vehicle data, the collaboration aims to streamline the claims process, reduce fraud exposure, and accelerate claims resolution. The integration of MOTER’s platform, which can digitally reconstruct accident events using vehicle data, allows insurers to shift from reactive claims handling to a more proactive model. This can lead to reduced cycle times for claims, as demonstrated by a trial with a top auto carrier showing a reduction of up to three days. For automakers, the partnership supports the trend towards embedded and OEM-branded insurance experiences, providing scalable, customer-focused programs without the need to build these capabilities internally. Ultimately, this initiative stands to benefit policyholders through faster, more transparent, and more efficient support during roadside incidents and accidents.
What's Next?
The partnership will focus on delivering an integrated solution that includes several key program highlights. These include MOTER’s Claims Visualization Tool, which uses connected vehicle data to reconstruct accident events, and the DriveSage and RiskSage Apps, which provide mobile driver coaching and real-time feedback on driving behavior. The collaboration will also enable Proactive Crash-to-Care, where connected vehicle incidents automatically trigger digital assistance workflows, including accident support and streamlined claims intake. Additionally, tailored experiences for connected and EV drivers will be offered, such as home EV charger coverage and OEM parts preferences for repairs. The companies aim to bring these new connected insurance experiences to market more efficiently, supporting both insurers and automakers in enhancing customer loyalty and operational efficiency. The ongoing development and adoption of these technologies are expected to further transform the vehicle ownership experience.
Beyond the Headlines
This partnership represents a deeper trend towards the convergence of automotive technology, insurance, and data analytics. The increasing sophistication of connected vehicles generates vast amounts of data that, when properly utilized, can revolutionize how incidents are managed and how drivers are supported. The ethical implications of collecting and using this data, particularly concerning privacy and data security, will become increasingly important. Furthermore, the shift towards proactive incident management and driver engagement tools could lead to a re-evaluation of traditional insurance models, potentially paving the way for more personalized and usage-based insurance products. This collaboration also highlights the growing ecosystem of insurtech companies that are driving innovation and challenging established practices within the insurance industry, ultimately pushing for a more integrated and data-driven approach to vehicle ownership.
