The Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA) celebrated significant victories at the annual Governor's Cup Yacht Race, which took place over the weekend. The race, a 70-nautical-mile overnight event, runs from Annapolis to St. Mary's City and is hosted

Notably, the ship Barba Roja, skippered by Steven Birchfield of St. Leonard, Maryland, won the prestigious Waldschmidt Best in Fleet Trophy, awarded to the ship and skipper who excel in the most challenging class category. Other winners included Jim Whited's Bad Cat and Russell Miller's Diablo, both securing first place in their classes.
