SkyWest Airlines, operating as United Express, is set to take over Essential Air Service (EAS) routes at Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport in Kentucky starting October 13. This transition will see SkyWest replace Contour Airlines as the sole scheduled
carrier at the airport. The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) selected SkyWest for this role in June, with a service term extending through July 31, 2030. SkyWest will provide connections from Owensboro to Chicago O’Hare and, notably, introduce a new route to Washington Dulles. The airline successfully petitioned to adjust the service pattern to include Dulles, which is a United hub. Initially, the Washington D.C. service will operate twice daily through October 24, then switch to a daily schedule. SkyWest has also committed to 12 round trips per week between Owensboro and Chicago O’Hare. Regulators have assured that there will be no gap in service during this transition.
