What's Happening?
e-Smart Logistics has entered into a sale-and-leaseback agreement with SLI for up to 20 Beta Technologies Alia electric aircraft. This deal involves SLI taking ownership of the fleet as they are delivered, with the first deliveries expected in late 2027
or early 2028. The agreement includes both the Alia CX300 and A250 variants, with e-Smart Logistics planning to use these aircraft for short-range cargo services in Europe. The company is also in the process of obtaining a new air operator certificate for its business, e-Smart Avia.
Why It's Important?
This agreement marks a significant step in the adoption of electric aviation, highlighting the growing interest in sustainable transportation solutions. By securing a leaseback arrangement, e-Smart Logistics can focus on operational setup while SLI manages the financial aspects. This collaboration underscores the importance of financial support from the leasing community in advancing electric aviation. The move could pave the way for more widespread use of electric aircraft, potentially reducing carbon emissions and operational costs in the logistics sector.
