The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an engineering analysis into nearly one million General Motors Co. pickup trucks and SUVs due to concerns about engine failure. The probe, announced on Friday, covers 997,743 vehicles
from model years 2021-2026, including popular models like the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and GMC Yukon, all equipped with GM's L87 6.2-liter V-8 engines. NHTSA has received 499 complaints alleging engine failures, even after these vehicles had undergone a previous recall remedy. Last year, GM recalled nearly 600,000 trucks and SUVs for potential engine failure, attributing the issue to a supplier. The initial fix involved checking engines and, if necessary, switching to thicker engine oil or replacing faulty engines. However, about 500 owners who received these fixes later reported engine failures, with 26 cases involving engines that had been completely replaced.
