Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of a new Local Zone in Hanoi, Vietnam, which is now generally available. This development aims to extend core cloud services such as compute, storage, and networking closer to customers in the region.
The Hanoi Local Zone supports various AWS services, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), among others. This initiative is part of AWS's strategy to provide low-latency data processing and meet data residency requirements by enabling local data storage and backup. The new Local Zone is one of the first in the Asia Pacific region to support Amazon S3 and Amazon EBS Local Snapshots, promising single-digit millisecond latency for end-user workloads and facilitating the migration and modernization of legacy applications to the cloud.
