What's Happening?
Airbus is set to integrate technology from its A321XLR model, including a revised wing design, into the A321neo. This move is part of a series of enhancements known as STEP4, aimed at improving the performance and production maturity of the A321neo. The
A321XLR features a lighter wing with a single-slotted inboard flap, which will replace the current double-slotted design on the A321neo. Additional improvements include new flight-control laws, an electronic 'e-rudder', and updated runway lights. These changes are initially being tested on the A320neo to ensure production maturity before being applied to the A321neo. The A320neo will also receive a new 'cobra' duct for the auxiliary power unit and corrosion-prevention measures. Airbus plans to begin deliveries of the modified A320neo, with the A321neo and XLR following a year later.
