What's Happening?
Greenland Mines has entered into a diamond drilling contract with Nordisk Fundering for its Skaergaard precious and critical metals project located in south-east Greenland. The 2026 field campaign will involve approximately 7,500 meters of helicopter-supported
core drilling. This initiative aims to advance resource categories, collect metallurgical material, and conduct geotechnical characterization to evaluate potential open-pit development scenarios. The drilling will utilize three helicopter-portable rigs capable of operating on both rock and selected ice-covered sites. The campaign will employ a mix of HQ and NQ core drilling using both vertical and angled holes. Greenland Mines has also arranged for helicopter and logistical support, securing an icebreaker and accommodation base camp vessel with a helicopter platform for the season.
Why It's Important?
This drilling campaign is a significant step in advancing the Skaergaard project, which is crucial for Greenland Mines' strategic development plans. The project focuses on precious and critical metals, which are vital for various industries, including technology and renewable energy. The successful execution of this campaign could lead to the development of an open-pit mine, potentially boosting the local economy and contributing to the global supply of critical metals. The involvement of Nordisk Fundering, known for its expertise in Arctic and Greenlandic drilling projects, underscores the technical complexity and importance of the project. The data collected from this campaign will support future economic assessments and could attract further investment into the region.
What's Next?
Following the drilling campaign, Greenland Mines will likely focus on analyzing the collected data to refine their resource estimates and development plans. The results will inform future economic assessments and potential open-pit mining operations. Stakeholders, including investors and local communities, will be keenly observing the outcomes, as successful results could lead to increased investment and job creation in the region. Additionally, Greenland Mines will continue its collaboration with GTK Mintec on metallurgical and processing test work, which is essential for developing a viable flowsheet for the project.
