The GE Aerospace Foundation has announced a $1 million investment to bolster industry workforce training efforts across Alabama through its Lifting Futures program. This initial investment, part of a broader goal to train 10,000 individuals for the aerospace
industry by 2030, will support three local partners in 2027. The program aims to enhance career awareness, prepare entry-level workers, improve program completion rates, and strengthen regional coordination. This initiative follows community meetings held during the summer with over a dozen organizations, including educators, civic leaders, and industry representatives along Alabama's I-85 manufacturing corridor. These meetings identified challenges such as limited awareness of career opportunities, lower training completion rates, and a need for greater coordination among organizations in the region, despite its strong manufacturing industry. The first-year grants are projected to benefit more than 400 people by creating a free bootcamp at Southern Union State Community College for aerospace and advanced manufacturing jobs, increasing awareness and retention in the Auburn-Opelika region through the Industrial Development Board of the City of Auburn, and building an expanded worker pipeline via the Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce.
