What's Happening?
Caroline Idiens, a midlife fitness coach and founder of Caroline’s Circuits, has outlined eight essential strength exercises for women over 40. Idiens, known as the 'queen of midlife fitness,' emphasizes
the importance of strength training to combat age-related muscle loss, known as sarcopenia. Her recommended exercises include squats, lunges, Romanian deadlifts, bent-over rows, shoulder presses, chest presses, glute bridges, and high planks. Idiens advises starting with bodyweight exercises and gradually incorporating weights to enhance strength and functional movement, which are crucial for maintaining balance, coordination, and mobility as one ages.
Why It's Important?
Strength training is vital for women over 40 to maintain muscle mass, improve bone density, and enhance overall health. As muscle loss can begin as early as age 30, incorporating strength exercises into regular fitness routines can help mitigate this decline, reducing the risk of falls and fractures. Idiens' approach provides a practical and accessible way for women to improve their physical health, promoting longevity and a higher quality of life. By focusing on functional movements, these exercises also support daily activities, making them an essential component of a comprehensive fitness regimen.
