What's Happening?
The Evento de Jóvenes Episcopales (EJE26) brought together nearly 100 young Episcopalians from South America, Central America, and the Caribbean in Rionegro, Colombia. The event, held from July 13-16, focused on celebrating Latino culture and youth empowerment
through shared faith and learning. Participants engaged in workshops on forgiveness, discipleship, and leadership, and took part in daily worship services. The gathering aimed to inspire young attendees to become active members of their churches and communities. The event also highlighted the absence of the Venezuelan delegation due to recent earthquakes, with prayers dedicated to them.
Why It's Important?
EJE26 serves as a platform for young Latin American Episcopalians to connect, share experiences, and strengthen their faith. By fostering a sense of community and shared purpose, the event helps empower young leaders to take active roles in their churches and broader communities. This empowerment is crucial for the future of the Episcopal Church in the region, as it seeks to nurture a new generation of leaders who can address contemporary challenges. The event also underscores the importance of cultural exchange and unity among diverse communities within the church.
What's Next?
Following the success of EJE26, there may be discussions about organizing similar events in the future to continue fostering connections among young Episcopalians. The positive reception of the event could lead to increased collaboration between different dioceses and the potential for joint events with English-speaking Episcopalians. The church may also explore ways to support the Venezuelan community in light of recent challenges. Continued engagement and support for young leaders will be essential in maintaining the momentum generated by EJE26 and ensuring the growth and vitality of the Episcopal Church in Latin America.
