A $3 billion investment in Brazil aims to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from the macauba palm, a tree native to South America. The project, backed by the UAE's Mubadala Investment Company, plans to cultivate 144,000 hectares of macauba trees,
significantly increasing the global supply of clean energy. The macauba tree is highly efficient, producing more oil per hectare than soybeans. By 2030, a biorefinery in Bahia, Brazil, is expected to produce 20,000 barrels of SAF daily. This initiative presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Nigeria's Dangote Refinery, which currently exports traditional jet fuel.
