Kith, in collaboration with luxury publisher Assouline, is set to release 'Kith: The Footwear Archive' to commemorate its 15th anniversary. This extensive publication will feature over 1,800 collaborative models and developmental prototypes, showcasing
Kith's partnerships with various brands over the years. Additionally, a limited Ultimate Edition, comprising 300 individually numbered copies signed by Ronnie Fieg, will be exclusively available at select Assouline locations on September 30, 2026. Before the official book launch, Kith will host a public exhibition from September 25 to September 27 at 25 Kent Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. This exhibition will mark the first time the complete 1,800-piece archive is displayed for public viewing, offering early access to the Classic Edition for collectors and industry observers.
Why It's Important?
The release of 'Kith: The Footwear Archive' and its accompanying exhibition signifies a major milestone for Kith, highlighting its evolution from a boutique to a prominent design house capable of securing significant collaborative agreements with established athletic brands. This retrospective offers a comprehensive look into the brand's design methodology and its impact on contemporary sneaker culture. For the U.S. fashion and retail industries, this event underscores the growing influence of streetwear and sneaker culture in the luxury market. It provides a valuable case study for how a brand can meticulously document its creative process and leverage its history to reinforce its market position and appeal to a dedicated consumer base. The exhibition in Brooklyn will also serve as a cultural event, drawing enthusiasts and potentially boosting local economic activity through tourism and retail sales. The collaboration with Assouline further elevates Kith's brand perception, aligning it with luxury publishing and reinforcing its status as a significant player in the global fashion landscape.
What's Next?
Following the public exhibition in Brooklyn from September 25 to September 27, Kith will proceed with the official launch of 'Kith: The Footwear Archive' on September 30, 2026. The Classic Edition will be widely available through Kith's various retail and online platforms, while the limited Ultimate Edition will be sold exclusively at select Assouline boutiques. The expanded distribution of the Classic Edition to Assouline locations in December will further broaden its reach. The exhibition is expected to generate significant buzz, potentially driving pre-orders and early sales of the book. Kith may also leverage the archive's content for future marketing campaigns or design inspirations, continuing to build on its rich history of collaborations. The success of this project could also pave the way for similar archival initiatives from other prominent streetwear and fashion brands, further solidifying the importance of brand heritage and documentation in the industry.
Beyond the Headlines
This initiative by Kith and Assouline extends beyond a simple book launch; it represents a significant cultural and historical documentation of sneaker design and streetwear's ascent into mainstream fashion. By meticulously archiving over 1,800 models, Kith is not only celebrating its own journey but also contributing to the broader narrative of footwear innovation and collaboration. The project highlights the increasing value placed on brand heritage and authenticity in a consumer market often driven by rapid trends. Ethically, the detailed documentation of prototypes and design evolution offers transparency into the creative process, potentially inspiring future designers and fostering a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship involved. The exhibition's conversion of a public space into a 'retrospective museum' also blurs the lines between commerce and culture, positioning Kith as a curator of its own legacy and a contributor to the artistic landscape of New York City. This move could influence how other brands approach their anniversaries and historical narratives, emphasizing storytelling and immersive experiences.
