What's Happening?
The University of Dayton's Honors Program offers a signature initiative called Dublin Flyers, which provides students with an eight-week internship opportunity in Ireland during the summer. This program aims to give students real-world experience, career
development, and cultural immersion. One alumna, Bella Fowler, participated in the Dublin Flyers program before her senior year and subsequently moved to Dublin after graduating in May 2026. Fowler, who majored in industrial engineering technology, gained experience in data analytics, data visualization, client engagement, and project management through her internship at CardiEnergy, an energy consultancy. Her experience extended beyond professional development, allowing her to explore Ireland, immerse herself in the local culture, and connect with diverse individuals. She currently works as a graduate analyst in transmission outage planning for EirGrid, Ireland's transmission system operator, and plans to continue her career there.

Beyond the Headlines
The Dublin Flyers program highlights a growing trend in higher education to integrate global experiences into academic curricula. This approach recognizes that a comprehensive education in the 21st century requires more than just classroom learning; it demands practical, international exposure. The program's focus on cultural immersion also addresses the broader societal need for greater understanding and empathy across different cultures. By living and working abroad, students not only gain professional skills but also develop a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives, which can contribute to a more tolerant and interconnected global community. This initiative also underscores the importance of university-led programs in facilitating international career pathways for U.S. students, bridging the gap between academic learning and global professional opportunities.
