CNET's lab in Louisville, Kentucky, conducted extensive tests on electric leaf blowers, discovering that manufacturer specifications like voltage, CFM (cubic feet per minute), and MPH (miles per hour) do not consistently correlate with actual blowing
power. The team developed a unique PVC air cannon to launch 210-gram projectiles, measuring the distance each leaf blower could propel them in both normal and turbo modes. Their findings indicated that some models with higher listed CFM and MPH ratings performed worse than those with lower ratings. For instance, the Greenworks 80V 770CFM Cordless Battery Blower, which had high ratings, was the top performer, launching projectiles over 461 inches. However, the EGO 56V with similar CFM and higher MPH ratings performed significantly worse. Similarly, two Milwaukee models with the same voltage but different CFM/MPH ratings showed the lower-rated model outperforming the higher-rated one. These results suggest that consumers should not solely rely on advertised specifications when purchasing leaf blowers.
