What's Happening?
Quantum Foundry Copenhagen, in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation, has announced plans to establish a new 5,300-square-meter quantum chip fabrication facility in Copenhagen. This facility, expected to open in 2027, aims to develop and scale
advanced manufacturing equipment for next-generation quantum chips. The initiative seeks to bolster Europe's position in the global quantum technology landscape by transforming scientific breakthroughs into commercial products. The Novo Nordisk Foundation has committed over DKK 2.9 billion (EUR 390 million) to quantum technologies, including the Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme at the Niels Bohr Institute, which aims to develop Denmark's first fully functional fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2034. The new facility will integrate nanofabrication, characterization, testing, chip assembly, packaging, and ultra-high-vacuum manufacturing capabilities, offering wafer fabrication services to quantum technology vendors worldwide on commercial terms.
