What's Happening?
AYK Energy has entered into an agreement to provide its OrionAN marine batteries to nine RoPax vessels being constructed for the Grimaldi Group. These vessels are part of Grimaldi's fleet renewal program and are being built at the China Merchants Jinling
Shipyard in Weihai. The delivery of these vessels is scheduled between 2028 and 2030. Six of these ships will operate in the Mediterranean under the Grimaldi Lines and Minoan Lines brands, while the remaining three will be managed by Finnlines in the Baltic Sea. The RoPax vessels are designed to improve maritime transport quality for both rolling cargo and passengers. They will feature multi-fuel engines capable of running on methanol and incorporate various green technologies, such as modern hull and high-efficiency propeller design, shore power connectivity, and waste heat recovery systems. The OrionAN batteries, which have received DNV type approval, will enhance the vessels' energy efficiency and environmental performance.
