What's Happening?
The Centre for Excellence in Mining Innovation (CEMI) has entered into a two-year partnership with Marks & Clerk to provide intellectual property (IP) services to the Mining Innovation Commercialisation Accelerator (MICA) Network in Canada. This collaboration
designates Marks & Clerk as the preferred provider of IP expertise, offering legal, technical, and commercial support to mining innovators across Canada. The partnership aims to help these innovators secure and manage their IP rights, which is crucial for the commercialization of advanced mining technologies. The MICA Network, managed by CEMI and backed by the Canadian government's Strategic Innovation Fund, is a $300 million initiative designed to accelerate the commercialization of mining technologies. Marks & Clerk will also participate in CEMI events and collaborate on outreach initiatives to connect MICA members with IP experts.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it strengthens Canada's position in the global mining technology sector by ensuring that Canadian companies can protect and commercialize their innovations. Intellectual property is a critical asset for companies, and having robust IP management can lead to significant commercial advantages. By providing dedicated IP assistance, the partnership aims to maintain Canada's economic stability and support the management of resource extraction methods and critical mineral supply chains. This initiative not only benefits the mining sector but also contributes to the broader economic landscape by fostering innovation and competitiveness.
