What's Happening?
Trafalgar is conducting a 'Great Godmother Search' to find a past guest to christen its newest river ship, the 'Trafalgar Dreamer.' The competition offers the winner the honor of becoming the ship's Godmother and a complimentary spot on its inaugural
sailing. Additionally, if the winning guest names their travel agent in their application, that agent will also receive a free place on the inaugural Seine sailing. Applications for the competition are open to past Trafalgar guests and will close on October 29, 2026. Entrants are required to share a meaningful memory or story from their previous travels with Trafalgar. The 'Trafalgar Dreamer' is set to debut on France’s Seine River in April 2027, operating the new 'Best of the Seine with Paris & Normandy' itinerary.
Why It's Important?
This initiative by Trafalgar is a strategic marketing move designed to engage its loyal customer base and generate excitement for its new river ship, the 'Trafalgar Dreamer.' By involving past guests in the christening ceremony, Trafalgar fosters a sense of community and personal connection to the brand, which can enhance customer loyalty and word-of-mouth marketing. The inclusion of travel agents in the prize structure also strengthens relationships with this crucial distribution channel, incentivizing agents to promote Trafalgar's offerings. In the competitive travel industry, such personalized campaigns can differentiate a brand and attract new bookings by highlighting unique experiences and customer appreciation. This approach underscores the value Trafalgar places on its long-standing customers and the travel advisor network.
What's Next?
The 'Great Godmother Search' will conclude on October 29, 2026, after which Trafalgar will select a winner from the submitted stories. The chosen Godmother will then prepare for the christening ceremony of the 'Trafalgar Dreamer' in April 2027, ahead of its inaugural sailing on the Seine River. Following the christening, the 'Trafalgar Dreamer' will commence its 'Best of the Seine with Paris & Normandy' itinerary, marking its official entry into service. Trafalgar will likely leverage the Godmother's story and the inaugural journey in its promotional materials to further market the new ship and its European river cruise offerings. The success of this campaign could influence future engagement strategies for new ship launches within the travel industry.
