Manheim Township High School junior Bobby Brandt, 17, recently competed as a member of the USA U19 Fly Fishing Youth Team at the Cortland FIPS-Mouche World Youth Fly Fishing Championships in County Donegal, Ireland. Brandt and his five teammates secured
the silver medal in the international competition, which featured teams from nine countries. The event, held from July 16-22, involved anglers fishing in five different waters—three lakes and two rivers—for brown trout and sea trout. Despite challenging conditions due to a hot, dry summer resulting in low, warm, and clear waters, Team USA caught 66 scorable fish, accumulating 37,340 points, second only to the host Irish team. Brandt caught the largest trout for Team USA, measuring 31 cm (12.2 inches).
