What's Happening?
Ben & Jerry’s Israel has introduced a new ice cream flavor called 'Milk and Honey,' inspired by the biblical description of the Land of Israel. This flavor uses locally sourced ingredients, including milk and cream from Kibbutz Alumim and honey from Kibbutz Yad
Mordechai. The chocolate fudge pieces are shaped like Stars of David, and the packaging features artwork by a local artist. The launch follows a split from the American Ben & Jerry’s operation after a 2021 boycott dispute. Proceeds from the sales will support efforts to revitalize Israel's periphery, particularly in southern communities affected by recent conflicts.
Why It's Important?
The launch of 'Milk and Honey' by Ben & Jerry’s Israel highlights the company's commitment to supporting local communities and fostering economic recovery in regions affected by conflict. This initiative not only provides financial support through sales proceeds but also symbolizes resilience and hope for the affected areas. The flavor's introduction also reflects the complex geopolitical landscape in which businesses operate, as it follows a contentious split from the American parent company over sales in Israeli settlements. The move underscores the potential for businesses to play a role in social and economic recovery efforts, while also navigating political sensitivities.
