What's Happening?
Kalamazoo Resources, an Australian exploration company, has announced the first assay results from its resource definition drilling at the Ashburton Gold Project in Pilbara, Western Australia. The company has completed 16 out of 65 planned drill holes
at Mt Olympus, part of a 14,000-meter drilling program. These initial results indicate continuity of mineralization within the main host sequence, with significant high-grade gold intersections. Notable results include 21 meters at 6.5 grams per tonne gold from 12 meters, and 50 meters at 2.6 grams per tonne gold from 129 meters. The company is focused on converting inferred resources to the indicated category and expanding its current 1.44-million-ounce gold resource base. Kalamazoo plans to release further assay results as they become available and aims to update its mineral resource estimate by Q4 2026.
Why It's Important?
The assay results are crucial for Kalamazoo Resources as they validate the existing resource model and support the potential for resource growth. This development is significant for the company’s transition from an explorer to a developer, with a production profile targeting over 1 million ounces of gold. The results also highlight the potential to add ounces within the planned mining envelope, which could enhance the economic viability of the Ashburton Gold Project. For the broader mining industry, successful resource expansion at Mt Olympus could attract further investment and interest in the Pilbara region, known for its rich mineral deposits.
What's Next?
Kalamazoo Resources plans to continue its drilling program, with a focus on targeting the Zeo fault and the main mineralized conglomerate host. The company is also working towards completing a Prefeasibility Study (PFS) for the Ashburton project by the first half of 2027. As the company releases more assay results, it will refine its resource estimates and potentially adjust its development plans. The successful completion of the PFS and updated mineral resource estimate could position Kalamazoo for further development activities and potential partnerships or investments.
