Historically, the Idaho-Maryland mine was a significant gold producer, operating from 1862 to 1957 and yielding an estimated 2.4 million ounces of gold. In the 1950s, the mine also explored tungsten, a critical mineral for defense applications, under a U.S. Department of Defense program. Rise Gold's CEO, David Watkinson, emphasizes the potential of the mine as a source of tungsten, which is predominantly produced by China, accounting for 84% of global production.
