What's Happening?
Caribbean marketing and technology agency Webfx has launched Webfx AI Studio and Webfx Academy, two new initiatives designed to help organizations across the region integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their operations and develop internal AI capabilities.
This move comes in response to a significant gap in AI adoption among Caribbean businesses, as highlighted by the Caribbean Development Dynamics 2026 report, a joint publication by the OECD Development Centre and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The report indicates that only 12% of businesses in the Caribbean are currently utilizing AI. Webfx AI Studio will focus on practical implementation, offering services such as AI-assisted creative production, research, workflow redesign, automation, and advisory support. Webfx Academy will complement this by providing practical workshops, training programs, and playbooks to help organizations build their internal capacity and integrate AI into their daily work, emphasizing a combination of AI with human judgment and creativity.
Why It's Important?
The launch of Webfx AI Studio and Academy addresses a critical need for technological advancement in the Caribbean, a region with significant economic ties to the U.S. For U.S. businesses operating in or with interests in the Caribbean, increased AI adoption can lead to more efficient and competitive regional partners, potentially streamlining supply chains, improving market intelligence, and fostering innovation. The low AI adoption rate of 12% identified by the IDB report suggests a substantial untapped potential for growth and modernization. By helping Caribbean businesses leverage AI, Webfx can contribute to regional economic development and digital transformation, which aligns with U.S. efforts to promote economic stability and technological progress in its neighboring regions. Furthermore, the emphasis on building internal capabilities rather than dependency can foster a more self-reliant and skilled workforce in the Caribbean, creating a more robust economic environment for all stakeholders.
What's Next?
Webfx will continue to evolve its offerings, focusing on integrating AI into creative production, research, workflows, and client solutions, while also developing governance standards and training its own teams. The AI Studio will provide implementation support across various business functions, while the Academy will focus on capability building through workshops and training. These initiatives are expected to support both existing Webfx clients and other organizations seeking assistance with AI adoption, marketing transformation, and workforce development across the Caribbean. The success of these programs could lead to a significant increase in AI utilization rates in the region, potentially closing the gap identified by the IDB report. This will likely involve ongoing collaboration with businesses to tailor AI solutions to their specific needs and to ensure responsible and effective integration of the technology.
Beyond the Headlines
The initiative by Webfx highlights a broader global challenge: bridging the gap between technological potential and practical adoption, especially in developing regions. The low AI adoption rate in the Caribbean, despite growing interest, points to barriers such as lack of expertise, infrastructure, or strategic guidance. Webfx's approach, which combines implementation services with educational programs, recognizes that successful AI integration requires both technological solutions and human capital development. This holistic strategy is crucial for ensuring that AI benefits are broadly distributed and that local workforces are equipped to adapt to technological shifts. The emphasis on combining AI with human judgment and creativity also addresses concerns about job displacement and promotes a more collaborative human-AI future. This model could serve as a blueprint for other regions seeking to accelerate their digital transformation in a responsible and inclusive manner, with implications for how international development organizations like the IDB approach technology transfer and capacity building.
