On July 26, 2005, Chicago Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux recorded his 3,000th career strikeout during a game against the San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field. Despite a rain delay, Maddux achieved this milestone
by striking out Omar Vizquel in the third inning. This accomplishment made Maddux the 13th pitcher in MLB history to reach 3,000 strikeouts and one of only nine pitchers to have both 3,000 strikeouts and 300 victories. Maddux's career achievements were later recognized with his induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
