The boards of South Korean low-cost carriers (LCCs) Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul have agreed to the terms and timeline for their planned merger. The merger is scheduled to take place on March 16, 2027, pending further regulatory and corporate approvals.
All three LCCs are part of the Hanjin Group. Air Busan and Air Seoul joined the group in 2024 following Korean Air's acquisition of Asiana Airlines, which is the parent company of Air Busan and Air Seoul. Korean Air is also the parent company of Jin Air. Following the merger, Korean Air will hold a 58.14% stake in the newly expanded Jin Air, and shareholders of Air Busan and Air Seoul will receive shares in the new entity based on an agreed ratio. The formal merger date for full-service airlines Korean Air and Asiana has been set for December 17. After these consolidations, South Korea will have one full-service carrier, Korean Air, and one LCC, Jin Air.
