What's Happening?
Litera, a prominent legal AI platform provider, has announced the launch of Clean+, a cloud-hosted evolution of its Metadact Server. This new service aims to enhance security for law firm communications by providing server-grade metadata protection across
all Outlook environments. Clean+ is designed to remove hidden document data from outbound email attachments, thereby preventing potential breaches of client confidentiality and legal ethics inquiries. The service operates on infrastructure managed by Litera, eliminating the need for IT departments to provision, patch, or maintain servers. This development is part of a broader consolidation of Litera's Metadact line under the Clean brand, offering a clear tier of protection for various deployment models. Clean+ is available as a standalone package and is included in Litera's Draft Advanced AI drafting suite, with general availability set for June 30.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Clean+ is significant for the legal industry as it addresses the growing need for secure communication channels in law firms. As AI accelerates document creation and collaboration, the volume of outbound documents increases, heightening the risk of metadata exposure. By providing a deterministic, rules-based engine for metadata protection, Clean+ ensures that law firms can maintain client trust and uphold legal standards without the infrastructure burden. This service is particularly crucial as IT teams face increasing demands to do more with less. By eliminating metadata mistakes at the source, Clean+ allows lawyers to send legal advice confidently, ensuring that clients receive work that meets the firm's standards. This development could lead to broader adoption of AI-driven solutions in the legal sector, enhancing efficiency and client relationships.
What's Next?
With the general availability of Clean+ scheduled for June 30, law firms currently using Metadact Server will receive dedicated migration support to transition to the new service. Litera plans to demonstrate Clean+ at the LegalTechTalk event in London on June 17-18, 2026, providing an opportunity for legal professionals to see the service in action. As law firms adopt Clean+, it is expected that there will be a shift towards more secure and efficient communication practices within the industry. This could prompt other legal technology providers to develop similar solutions, further advancing the integration of AI in legal practices.
