What's Happening?
The Britannia P&I Academy is hosting its 2026 programme from June 15 to 19 in its new London office, marking a significant milestone under the leadership of newly appointed CEO, Mike Hall. This week-long event is designed for members of the Britannia Group,
providing a comprehensive introduction to Protection & Indemnity (P&I) and Freight, Demurrage, and Defence (FD&D) insurance. The Academy, which has been running for over 25 years, targets individuals new to P&I, bringing together 32 delegates from the Club's global membership. The programme includes expert-led sessions on various topics such as underwriting, cargo claims, loss prevention, and sustainability. Additionally, the event features social activities, including networking opportunities, a guided tour of the Lloyd’s building, and a West End theatre show.
Why It's Important?
The Britannia P&I Academy's programme is crucial for fostering knowledge and understanding of the P&I sector among its members. By educating new members, the Academy helps ensure that the Britannia Group maintains a knowledgeable and well-prepared membership base, which is essential for navigating the complexities of maritime insurance. The event also strengthens the international community within the Britannia Group, promoting diversity and collaboration among its members. This initiative supports the Club's strategic goals of enhancing member engagement and expanding its influence in the global maritime insurance market.
What's Next?
Following the 2026 programme, the Britannia P&I Academy is expected to continue its tradition of annual educational events, further solidifying its role as a key resource for member education and engagement. The success of this year's programme may lead to expanded offerings or new initiatives aimed at addressing emerging challenges in the maritime insurance industry. The Club may also explore additional opportunities for collaboration and networking among its members, leveraging the relationships built during the Academy to foster a more cohesive and supportive community.
