What's Happening?
The Green Bay Packers and Sargento are collaborating for the 24th consecutive season of their 'Touchdowns for Hunger' program. This initiative aims to combat food insecurity in Wisconsin. Under the program, Sargento pledges to donate $2,000 towards hunger
relief for every touchdown scored by the Packers during the regular season. The donations are split between two Wisconsin-based non-profit organizations: Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee and Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay. Since its inception in 2003, the program has raised nearly $2.0 million and provided over one million meals to families in need across Wisconsin. Last season, the Packers scored 48 touchdowns, resulting in a $96,000 donation.
Why It's Important?
This long-standing partnership addresses the critical issue of food insecurity within Wisconsin, leveraging the popularity of a major sports team to generate significant charitable contributions. The program provides consistent financial support to local food banks, enabling them to continue their vital work in feeding vulnerable families. By linking donations to on-field performance, 'Touchdowns for Hunger' creates an engaging way for fans and the community to participate in hunger relief efforts, fostering a sense of collective purpose. The program also raises public awareness about the prevalence of hunger in the state, encouraging broader community involvement and support for organizations like Hunger Task Force and Paul's Pantry, which rely heavily on donations.
What's Next?
As the NFL regular season progresses, Sargento will continue to track the Green Bay Packers' touchdowns, with each score triggering a $2,000 donation. The funds will be regularly distributed to Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee and Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay, allowing these organizations to plan and execute their hunger relief programs throughout the year. The ongoing success of the program will depend on the Packers' performance and the continued commitment of Sargento. The initiative is expected to continue its mission of providing meals and raising awareness for food insecurity in Wisconsin, building on its two-decade legacy of community support.
