What's Happening?
Israel's representative for the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest will be chosen through the television talent show 'The Next Star for Eurovision,' as announced by KAN, the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, and Keshet 12. This program, known in Hebrew
as 'Hakokhav Haba L’Eurovision,' will air on Keshet 12 in the fall. The renewed collaboration between KAN, Keshet, and Tedy Productions follows a series of strong performances by Israeli contestants in previous Eurovision contests. Notably, Noam Bettan secured second place with the song 'Michelle' in the 2026 contest held in Vienna. The selection process for the 2027 representative will involve a committee evaluating anonymous song submissions, allowing the use of artificial intelligence to produce recordings. This approach aims to ensure fairness and the selection of the best possible song.
Why It's Important?
The selection of Israel's Eurovision representative through 'The Next Star' underscores the importance of national pride and cultural representation on an international stage. Eurovision is a significant event that garners global attention, and Israel's consistent strong performances enhance its cultural influence and visibility. The partnership between KAN and Keshet also highlights the economic and logistical benefits of collaboration, as it reduces costs for the public broadcaster while maintaining high production standards. This initiative not only supports the local entertainment industry but also fosters national unity and excitement as audiences engage with the selection process.
What's Next?
The upcoming season of 'The Next Star for Eurovision' will commence in the fall, with the selection process involving multiple stages. Initially, a committee will review all eligible song submissions, narrowing them down to approximately 40 entries. These will then be evaluated by a final committee comprising KAN professionals and a Keshet representative. The chosen representative will prepare to compete in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria. The continued partnership between KAN, Keshet, and Tedy Productions is expected to deliver another successful season, potentially leading to further strong performances by Israel in future Eurovision contests.
