What's Happening?
The Israeli football team, Toto Equals, secured fourth place in the Special Olympics Unified Football World Championship. This marked the first time an Israeli team participated in the tournament. The team, comprising nine Special Olympics athletes with
disabilities and seven Unified partners without disabilities, competed against teams from 11 other nations. Despite facing challenges, including injuries to four players, the team managed to win games against China and the United Arab Emirates. Tomer Gini, the team's striker, emerged as the tournament's top scorer, winning the Golden Boot with 10 goals. The team ultimately lost in the semi-finals to Jamaica and Paraguay, finishing fourth overall. Coach Ofir Haim expressed pride in the team's perseverance, while Special Olympics Israel CEO Sharon Levy Balanga highlighted the team's representation of values such as tolerance and inclusion.
