What's Happening?
BMSS Advisors & CPAs, a Top 100 accounting firm, has expanded its operations by acquiring Avizo Group, effective July 1. This acquisition increases BMSS's presence in Alabama, adding two new offices in Brewton and Fairhope, and growing its team to approximately
410 employees. The firm, based in Birmingham, reported $85 million in revenue and is ranked No. 83 on Accounting Today's 2026 Top 100 Firms list. The acquisition also marks the launch of the BMSS Family of Companies, which includes Abacus Technologies, BMSS Wesson Wealth Solutions, and Payroll & Benefit Solutions. These entities will offer a range of services including advisory, tax, assurance, estate and trust, valuation, payroll, wealth management, cybersecurity, IT, artificial intelligence, and business intelligence services.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition of Avizo Group by BMSS Advisors & CPAs signifies a strategic expansion in the competitive accounting industry, particularly in the southeastern United States. By increasing its workforce and geographical footprint, BMSS is positioning itself to offer a broader range of services and enhance its market presence. This move could potentially lead to increased revenue streams and a stronger client base. The creation of the BMSS Family of Companies allows the firm to diversify its offerings, which is crucial in an industry that is increasingly integrating technology and advisory services. This expansion reflects a growing trend among accounting firms to consolidate and expand their service capabilities to remain competitive.
What's Next?
Following the acquisition, BMSS will focus on integrating Avizo Group's operations and aligning their services with the existing BMSS framework. The firm aims to maintain the personal, relationship-driven service that both companies are known for, while leveraging the expanded resources and capabilities. The success of this integration will be critical in determining the long-term benefits of the acquisition. Additionally, BMSS may explore further expansion opportunities or strategic partnerships to continue its growth trajectory. Stakeholders, including clients and employees, will be closely monitoring how the integration impacts service delivery and organizational culture.
