Worthington Farms, a North Carolina agricultural operation with nearly two centuries of history, is continuing its tradition of adaptation and innovation through its expansion into PhyllaTech LLC. Worth Williams, a sixth-generation farmer and an alumnus
of NC State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), has spearheaded this new venture. PhyllaTech LLC is a tissue culture lab primarily focused on propagating plants for the commercial berry industry, including blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries. This development follows Worthington Farms' historical shifts from tobacco to row crops, livestock, poultry, and eventually a plant nursery, notably becoming the first North Carolina nursery to adopt 'pot-in-pot' container production in 1990. Williams's education, including a horticultural science degree and participation in CALS' Executive Farm Management Program, provided the foundation for establishing PhyllaTech, which has grown to a 35-person operation.
