What's Happening?
JK Materials, a subsidiary of HanWool Materials Science, has received the final approval for its Process Safety Management (PSM) review from the Chungnam Regional Major Industrial Accident Prevention Center under South Korea's Ministry of Employment and
Labor. This approval clears the last regulatory hurdle for the company to commence commercial production at its Sejong campus. The PSM review is a comprehensive safety assessment that evaluates raw material input, manufacturing operations, equipment safety, worker training, risk assessment, and emergency response systems. Following pilot production that began in June, JK Materials is now set to start generating production-related revenue later this month. The Sejong campus, located in the Jeonui General Industrial Complex, is designed as a dedicated semiconductor materials production base, with facilities for raw material storage, hazardous materials management, and worker safety systems.
Why It's Important?
The approval for JK Materials to begin commercial production at the Sejong campus is significant for the semiconductor industry, particularly as demand for high-bandwidth memory and advanced packaging continues to rise. The Sejong campus is expected to become a key driver of revenue growth for HanWool Materials Science, as it will enable the company to transfer mass production of existing customer products and secure new customers. The facility's ability to produce a broad range of semiconductor patterning materials, including polymers for photoresists and photosensitive materials, positions it as a critical supplier in the semiconductor supply chain. Ensuring a stable quality and secure supply of these materials is crucial for meeting the increasing demands of the industry.
What's Next?
With the PSM approval in place, JK Materials will proceed with transferring production from its R&D and pilot facilities at the Giheung campus to the Sejong campus. The company will begin commercial production and shipments on a product-by-product basis as customer qualification processes are completed. The completion of the final building at the Sejong campus is scheduled for this month, which will further enhance the facility's production capabilities. As the company expands its customer base and increases the utilization rate of the Sejong campus, it is poised to play a significant role in the semiconductor materials market.
