What's Happening?
Alimentos Sanygran, a Spanish company specializing in plant-based foods, has acquired assets from Nutrition & Santé in the Iberian region. The acquisition includes a factory located in Castellterçol near Barcelona and the Natursoy organic plant-based food brand.
This transaction also involves the transfer of approximately 60 employees to Alimentos Sanygran. The company, which is partially owned by Grupo Apex, aims to consolidate its position in the plant protein sector by integrating new capabilities that complement its existing technological and production platform. Nutrition & Santé, a subsidiary of the Japanese group Otsuka Pharmaceutical, reported a turnover of €428 million in 2025, with the Iberian region accounting for about 19.9% of its total sales volumes. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition is significant as it represents a strategic move by Alimentos Sanygran to enhance its presence in the plant-based food industry, a sector experiencing rapid growth due to increasing consumer demand for sustainable and health-conscious food options. By acquiring Nutrition & Santé's assets, Alimentos Sanygran is poised to expand its market share and strengthen its supply chain capabilities. This move could potentially lead to increased competition in the plant-based food market, benefiting consumers with more diverse product offerings. Additionally, the acquisition aligns with global trends towards plant-based diets, which are seen as more environmentally sustainable and health-friendly.
What's Next?
Following the acquisition, Alimentos Sanygran is expected to focus on integrating the new assets into its operations and leveraging them to expand its product offerings. The company may also explore further opportunities for growth within the plant-based sector, potentially through additional acquisitions or partnerships. Stakeholders, including Grupo Apex, are likely to monitor the integration process closely to ensure it aligns with the company's strategic goals. The broader plant-based food industry will be watching to see how this acquisition impacts market dynamics and whether it prompts similar moves by competitors.
