What's Happening?
Elbit Systems is offering a new technology to enhance the situational awareness and self-protection capabilities of legacy fighter jets, such as the Lockheed Martin F-16. This technology, showcased at the Farnborough
show, is called the electro-optical distributed aperture system (EO DAS). It aims to bring fifth-generation capabilities to existing aircraft fleets. The system includes an array of six sensors installed around the aircraft, which relay information to a central computer with AI processing capabilities. A new helmet-mounted system, developed in partnership with Collins Aerospace, provides pilots with real-time information, including missile warnings and alerts about uncrewed aerial vehicles. Elbit Systems has already secured an $80 million contract to equip the Israeli air force's F-16I fleet with similar technology.
